Sports Massage Qualifications

L.S.S.M. Dip. (Hons) Level 5 BTEC
SPS/YMCA Sports Massage Diploma
Registered with Embody (Guild of Professional Practitioners)
Member of the Complementary Therapists Association (CThA)

I was born in June 1970 and have been a qualified Sports Massage Therapist  since 1991. I qualified with the London School of Sports Massage (L.S.S.M.)  and passed the diploma with Honours. More recently I passed the YMCA/SPS Diploma course in Sports Massage and upgraded the LSSM diploma to a BTEC Level 5 therapist. I am also registered with the CThA and Embody Guild of Professional Practitioners (GPP) for insurance purposes.

In over 26 years of working as a Sports Massage Therapist, I have treated thousands of clients, ranging from professional triathletes, footballers and squash and rugby players, through to non-exercising, stressed corporate high-flyers, working 80-100 hours per week!

Each client has had a different need, whether it be for working out muscular  tension to reduce stress or increasing the flexibility and circulation  of an area to improve sporting performance and/or reduce the risk of sustaining an over-use injury.

Working alongside physiotherapists, osteopaths, podiatrists and nutritionists,  I have a close-knit alliance with these other health professionals for the purposes of referral.

I currently work within 2 London venues:
Covent Garden Physiotherapy Clinic (WC2), and Purus Active Health at The Athlete Lab (City EC4)

Please go to the ‘Where do I work from?’ page for more information about each venue and for maps of where the clubs are located.

Fitness Instructing, Coaching and Teaching

In recent times I have streamlined my working life so that I now solely work in a Sports Massage Therapy capacity. Prior to this I have gained considerable background history within other aspects of the Fitness Industry, notably in Gym Instruction, Swimming and Triathlon Coaching and also Spinning Teaching. These also reflect over 20 years of knowledge gained from my triathlon racing.

Gym Instruction

YMCA Level 2 Fitness Trainer award.

I worked at Cannons Health Clubs (now Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing) as part of the Fitness Team as a Gym Instructor on a part-time basis. This involved taking 1 to 1 consultations with new members and advising them on training programmes suitable for their needs, whether it be for weight management, toning, increased cardiovascular fitness levels or muscle bulk building.

Swimming and Triathlon Coaching

BTA Level 2 Triathlon Coach
ASA Prelim Swim Teacher

In the course of my gym instruction and sports massage work, I have helped many athletes to develop running and triathlon training programmes as well as to plan out their racing seasons.

I worked as a swim coach with Swim for Tri for 2 years (2004-2006) at their Kensington Sports Centre base as well as on their 1 day courses in Walthamstow.

Until 2007 I worked with many triathletes for 1 to 1 swim teaching and coaching purposes.

Spinning Teaching

Schwinn Certified Spinning Instructor
Fit to Perform Studio Cycling Instructor

I moved into teaching Spinning from April 2000. For me, becoming a Spinning Instructor was a move that enabled me to utilise my competitive cycling experience from my triathlon years and build upon my teaching and presentation skills also.

In the 5 years that I taught spin classes at both Holmes Place (now Virgin Active) and Cannons gyms (now Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing) I always aimed to keep intensity levels and motivation high, offering relevant information on technique and focus throughout the class. I always tried to make my classes varied and fun with the use of interesting choreography and high energy music.
